Description

A wine of high energy and purity. Balance is definitely the hallmark of the Clos Marguerite wines. This is more than ever showing in the vintage 2017 Pinot Noir. On the nose, some vibrant summer berry fruits; raspberry, cherry, blueberry, are harmoniously blended with refine savoury aromas; toasted spices, pepper, anise, dried herbs, and some elusive meaty, leathery notes. The fruit sweetness and the refine tannins give the mouth its round and supple feel. Succulent, yet dry, with a wonderful balance and a long finish; another classy Pinot Noir.

Vineyard

All the fruits are sourced from our 8ha. single vineyard; a free-draining terrace perched 15 m above the South bank of the Awatere River. High density planted vines, Guyot double pruning, controlled yield, are the X factors allowing a full aromatic maturity of the grapes. As soon as picked, the fruits are transported in small bins to the onsite gravity fed winery; a guaranty to deliver the fruits in the best possible conditions.

Vinification

100 % handpicked, the fruit is mostly de-stemmed and crushed before sliding into the open fermenter tank (a very small proportion is not crushed or destemmed). A cold pre-fermentation maceration (10º C) for about a week precedes the fast and warm fermentation (max 32º C). All together, the fruits benefit of about 3 weeks of maceration before pressing. The wine is then transferred to barrels where it is resting for a year. A good balance of new, 2, 3 and 4 years old French oak barrels ensures fine and delicate velvet tannins.

Maturation

The wine is aged in burgundy barrels for 12 months. A good balance of new, 2, 3 and 4 years old French oak barrels ensures fine and delicate velvet tannins.
