Brancott Estate Terroir Series Sauvignon Blanc 2021
Description
This Sauvignon Blanc is packed with citrus and herbaceous notes. Vivid and intensely aromatic, it's mouth-wateringly good. This wine displays a powerful and complex nose of fresh capsicum along with fresh citrus and green olive notes. The palate has great concentration, a lovely crisp acidity and an explosion of flavour, as well as a textural element that really sets this wine apart.

Vineyard
In the more southern Awatere Valley, the soils are composed of three distinct layers: a thin semi-fertile soil, a middle layer of river stones and shingle, and all underpinned by an impervious mudstone layer that effectively prevents the roots of the vines from penetrating further and hence controls the vine’s vigour. The Sauvignon Blanc clones in the Awatere Valley are Mass selection on a variety of rootstocks including; 5C, Schwarzmann,101-14 Millardet and SO4. The vines are 10 to 15 years old. They are trellised on VSP with 3 canes laid down.
Vinification
The grapes were machine harvested in early April 2020. They were transported to the winery and gently bag pressed. The juice was promptly clarified to maintain elegant, fresh flavours. 13% of the blend was fermented in French oak Cuves to enhance mid palate texture and complexity while the balance was fermented at cool temperatures in stainless steel with cultured yeast to emphasise the distinctive Awatere characters. The carefully selected components were blended and filtered ensuring vibrant sub-regional characters were retained.
